Monsignor Adolf Kofi Amexo Goes Home
Msgr Adolf Kofi Amexo was born on 28th December, 1932. He was the fourth child of eight. He started school at the age of ten at Fodome Helu Roman Catholic school from 1942 to 1951. He received First communion at the hands of Rev. Fr. Killian Kpatakpa of blessed memory. In 1942.
He was confirmed in the year 1948 by his Lordship Bishop Joseph Gerard Holland of blessed memory.
He entered Amisano Seminary in the year 1956 and after five years he was admitted to the major seminary for the philosophical and theological studies.
He was ordained priest at Kpando, Bishop Herman College on 23rd July, 1967 by His Lordship Bishop Anthony Konings of the then Keta Diocese.
He was first posted to Denu where he worked for only Seven months and then posted to Ho Parish on 15th March 1968 as curate. Then, Ho parish had about 34 outstations stretching from Juapong through to Avatime Gbadzeme.
In his third year as a priest, he was appointed Parish priest of Immaculate Conception, Shia. He was also appointed as the chaplain for the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) for 10 years thus from 1976 to 1986.
Msgr worked in several parishes in the then Ho-Keta Diocese. Some of these parishes include Vakpo, St. Augustine Parish, Hohoe, Papase, Ve Golokwati among others and most especially at Holy Rosary Parish, Hohoe where he celebrated his 25th Anniversary.
Msgr was instrumental in the vocation of several priests and religious in and outside the Ho Diocese. Some of these are Rev. Frs William Horlu, Victor Gedze, John Helu, Terrence Adzimah, Raymond Agbenyo and many others . Srs. Lucy Hometorwu, Bernice Gbegbeawu and Brothers John Towoe, Joseph Kuriamenu were also influenced by his life.
He also had the opportunity to serve the Church in Liberia at Harper in Grandcess Parish from 15th May to 1st October 1985.
Fr Adolf Kofi Amexo celebrated his 40th Anniversary as Priest on Saturday 28th July 2007 at St Joseph Catholic Church, Fodome Woe. It was in this celebration that the announcement was made that he was raised to the status of Papal Prelate of Honour, designated as Monsignor. This news was received with great joy.
In his retirement, Msgr Amexo stayed at st John vianey House Sokode Lokoe, Fodome and finally at Madonna House, Ho Dome.
Mgrs died on Holy Thursday 18th April, 2019 at the Volta Teaching Hospital, Ho at the age of 86.
