5th Anniversary Celebration of Bishop Fianu 

The Bishop of Ho, Most Rev. Emmanuel Kofi Fianu celebrates five years anniversary as the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ho.

This celebration will take place on the 3rd of October, 2020 at the Sacred Heart Cathedral, Ho Bankoe at 10:00 am. The Bishop has chosen as a theme for his celebration; "Gratitude" expressing his profound gratitude to God for how far he has brought him as the bishop of Ho Diocese. As part of the celebration, there will be the launching of the Anniversary Booklet, a book spelling out all he was able to achieve within the course of these five years. The celebration is strictly by invitation but can be accessed live via our various social media platforms (youtube and Facebook). Those who are to attend this anniversary are reminded to observe the COVID-19 protocols.

BISHOP FIANU CELEBRATES FIVE YEARS AS BISHOP OF HO.

On October 3, 2015, Bishop Fianu was ordained and consecrated as the Bishop of the Ho Diocese following the retirement of the then Bishop, Most Rev. Francis Kofi Anani Lodonu (now Bishop Emeritus), who shepherd the Diocese for more than four decades.

Choosing the theme; “gratitude”, the bishop celebrated his Wooden Anniversary with his sheepfold on 3^rd October 2020, at the Sacred Heart Cathedral, Ho Bankoe.  He expressed his appreciation to God and the Catholic faithful for their support within these years. In attendance were Bishop Emeritus, Most Rev. Francis Anani Kofi Lodonu, the clergy, religious, and the representatives of catholic faithful from all corners of the diocese.

In his homily, the bishop said that God has a plan for all of us and hence we need not complain or argue with him since we as human beings are tempted to do so most especially during challenging moments. In addition, Bishop Fianu said he has had a fair share of these difficult moments but has learned not to argue with God but to remain calm.  The Bishop, therefore, urged all and sundry to support him and the Diocese in prayers and to ask for divine guidance for him so as to be obedient and to listen to the voice of his maker in difficult times as he continues his shepherding role.

The second part of the program was ushered in by the launching of  Bishop Fianu’s five-year Episcopacy Report Booklet. It is a booklet that gave accounts of his stewardship in the Diocese during these years. He said; “accountability promotes stewardship and inspires confidence and is the difference between success and failure.” The Bishop continued that “Accountability builds trust which is essential in any relationship and also improves performance as it eliminates the time and effort spent on distracting activities and other unproductive behaviour.”

In his congratulatory message, Bishop Emeritus Francis Kofi Lodonu congratulated his successor and called on all the faithful to rally around him to successfully lead this diocese. There were congratulatory messages from the Ho Diocesan Priests Association (HODPA), the religious, and the laity of the diocese.

BISHOP FIANU COMMISERATES WITH THE EVANGELICAL PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, GHANA

Most Rev. Emmanuel Kofi Fianu, SVD, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ho, on Tuesday 27th October 2020 sympathized with the leadership of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana at the Church's Headquarters in Ho. This was upon the demise of Rt. Rev. Dr. Seth Senyo Agidi, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church.

The late Rt. Rev. Dr. Agidi was elected in August 2014 and inducted into office on 11th January 2015 as the 13th Moderator of the Church, to serve a six-year term. His tenure of office was to end on December 13, 2020.

He passed-on on Saturday, 10th October 2020 at the Ho Teaching Hospital after a short illness at the age of 65.

Bishop Fianu extolled the life and ministry of the late Moderator, especially during his term of office as the Chief Shepherd of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church.

He seized the opportunity to visit the widow at Pastor’s residence where he signed the book of condolences. He prayed for and console the bereaved family and finally prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul.

Also present were six priests from the Catholic Diocese of Ho as well as some clergy of the E.P. Church and some family members.

REV. FR. MATHIAS DENUTSUI WILL BE BURIED TOMORROW 28TH OCTOBER, 2020.

On 11th October 2020 at about 4:00 pm, Bishop Fianu announced the sudden demise of Rev. Fr. Mathias Denutsui at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Accra after a short illness. The burial mass will take place tomorrow, 28th October 2020 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Ho- Kpevele. All are cordially invited to sympathize with the Bishop and the whole Catholic family of Ho Diocese.

Be informed that the Covid-19 protocol will be strictly observed.

Eternal rest grant unto him, oh Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. 

REV. FR. MATHIAS DENUTSUI WAS LAID TO REST TODAY

Rev. Fr. Denutsui in the early hours of 11^th October 2020 passed on at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra and was buried today 28^th October 2020 at the Priest’s cemetery at Sokode Gbogame. Before his demise, he was the Parish Priest of St. Anthony Parish, Sokode Gbogame.

 In attendance were the Bishop of Jasikan, Most Rev. Gabriel Ababio Mante, priests from all over the country, the religious and the laity. 

In the burial mass led by Most Rev. Emmanuel Kofi Fianu, SVD, at St. Francis of Assisi Parish Ho-Kpevele, the bishop used the opportunity to admonish Christ’s faithful present on how to prepare as they journey through life.

He said we ought to die to our old selves of sin in order to live a new life in Christ. This, he further added is a constant struggle from the day of baptism until we attain the Beatific vVsion. This life, he said must be guided by the very life of Christ, the Good News.

Further, he added that we have to constantly tell ourselves that walking with Christ means struggling every day of our lives to avoid sin and to do what is good. It is a life long journey’s assignment that we can never relent and we all need to endure since it involves suffering and temptations. It is only when we do this that we can say we are living with, in, and for Christ.  He added that doing our responsibilities every day is a clear example of living a life guided by Christ.

Various tributes were read to the memory of Fr. Mathias.

Before the final commendation, the Bishop expressed his appreciation to all who took care of Father Mathias during his moment of sickness and also those who have come to commiserate with him and the family.

May he continue to rest in perfect peace.

Today, the 31^st day of October 2020, marking the end of the Rosary Month, Bishop Emmanuel Kofi Fianu . SVD ordained two priests. They are Rev. Fr. Ernest Asigbetse from St. Augustine Parish Alavanyo, and Rev. Fr. Louis Herman Ocanson from Holy Spirit Parish SNNIT Flat, Ho. This colourful event took place at St. Francis of Assisi chapel in the presence of about 80 priests, 30 religious and a session of the laity.

The Bishop congratulated the new priests for taking such bold steps despite the challenges involved. He also thanked their parents for offering their wards to serve the church as priests who will sacrifice for the sins of others and their own sins as well. In his homily, he admonished the newly ordained to eschew all kinds of jealousy and envy which are the very evils that kill the missionary zeal but to work together for the common good of the church and for their own good. He said further that they should learn to prepare good homilies and avoid copying from the internet since we live in a technological world, a world in which the priest is no longer the only learned person in the society. He also urged the lay to continue to pray for their priests and assist them as they continue their shepherding roles amongst them. He also used the medium to wish them a fulfilled ministry.
